- Signed out of the previous Apple ID (no Activation Lock)
- Battery cycle count in System Information — under 500 is healthy
- Screen in daylight — no dead pixels, lines or pressure marks
- Every key and the trackpad click
- All ports, plus charging with the original adapter
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera and speakers
- No dents that suggest a drop, and no swelling under the trackpad
