How to Find Your MacBook Model Number (A1466, A2338…)
Every MacBook has a model number that starts with "A", such as A2338. It tells a buyer exactly which machine you have, so it is the first thing we ask for when you sell or trade in a Mac. Here is how to find it in under a minute, even if the Mac won't switch on.
If the Mac turns on
- Click the Apple menu › About This Mac. You'll see the name, chip and year, for example "MacBook Air, M2, 2022", plus the serial number.
- For the A-number, click More Info › System Report; or simply turn the Mac over (below).
- Screenshot the About This Mac window and send it to us on WhatsApp. That one picture gives us the model, chip, memory and serial.
If the Mac won't turn on
Turn it over. The small print near the hinge on the bottom case reads Model A####, followed by the serial number. Take a clear photo of that text. It is enough for a valuation of a MacBook that is dead, cracked or water-damaged.
